My Beckett

My sweet Beckett, these are just a few things I want to remember about you at almost 2 1/2...

You have this amazing dry sence of humor. Everyone thinks you are so serious, then all of a sudden you come out and say or do the funniest things. You keep a smile on my face all day long. You new favorite thing to say is, "Oh. My. Word." But it comes out "Wud" because you can't quite say "word" yet. I sometimes ask you to say it just because it makes me smile.

You love to eat, and I call you a piggy sometimes. Recently, you have started saying, "Know what Mama? You a piggy." I try not to take it too personally.

You still sleep in your crib, and every night after we read a book, I set you in your crib. You make sure your pacis and sippy are in there, and then you always want to do your "cool trick"! You jump up and down a few times and then do a funny little kick into the air before plopping back down on your pillow. I will miss watching your cool trick every night when you decide you are too big to do it for me.

You love to wear your rubber boots. Everywhere. Seriously...EVERYWHERE. Your green froggie boots are your favorite with your brown monkey boots coming in a close second.

You absolutely despise getting your ears cleaned. Or your nose. If I try to get a boogie out of your nose, you fall out on the floor flailing about screaming No, Mommy, No! Brody tells you you need to chill out.

You are a booty-shaking machine! All we have to say is "Shake it, Beckett!" And you shake that little hiney for all you are worth. There is a game on the Wii that requires you to shake the remotes really fast to increase your points, and when you are playing this game, and Brody says, "Shake it, Beckett!"...you shake your booty instead of the remotes.

We are working with you on things like spelling your name and remembering your birthday. When we ask you to spell your name, you say "B-R-O-D-Y." I guess you have heard Brody spell his name too many times! And when asked when your birthday is, you always say "Halloween!!" We tell you that yes, your birthday is pretty close to Halloween, but we want to know exactly when you were born. You then tell us "Septema twenty-fust."

When you do or say something that you know you shouldn't have, you immediately respond with, "Be nice, Mama."

We are slowly (but surely!) breaking the paci problem. You only have them during nap time and bedtime now, and have been doing this for several weeks. I am perfectly fine with you taking them during this time. You keep it in your mouth to fall asleep, but when I come to check on you before I go to bed, it has always fallen out, so I know you are only sucking on it for a few minutes.

I love the way you say, "I wanna hold you, Mama" when you want me to pick you up. You are a pretty busy and indepenant boy, so when you request to be held, I usually always oblige.

Every morning (or afternoon...) when I am in the bathroom getting ready, you pull your stool up to the counter and "get ready" too. You brush your hair, or put lotion on your face, or brush your teeth. I'm not sure I would even know how to get ready without you and your little blue stool right beside me.

You and our fish have a love-hate relationship. You love to feed them. Too much. Like half of the bottle too much. They love that you want to help take care of them, but we recently found ol' Buzz belly up after one of your feedings. His eyes were bigger than his belly apparently. We have learned to keep the fish food out of your reach.

You sit in a regular chair at the dinner table now! Levi has taken over your high-chair, and you think you are too big for the booster. But you do so well, so it has worked out perfectly!

You always want to know where your brothers are. As soon as you wake up, those are the first words out of your mouth, "Where Brody, Mommy?" "Where Levi, Mommy?"

You are very much into singing right now! Your favorite songs to sing are the ABC song, Jesus Loves Me, the B-I-B-L-E, God Loves me, She'll be Comin' 'Round the Mountain, and I Love You to the Moon and Back (a song that I sing to you boys before bed almost every night).

You have become very involved in our prayer time at night. You even remind me if you think I've forgotten. A common prayer of yours sounds something like, "Dear God, thank you for today. Thank you for Brody and Levi. Thank you for Mommy and Daddy. Thank you for my paci and cuppy. Thank you for Jesus. In Jesus' name, Amen."

This is going to sound funny, but you love to smell things. You always want to smell a candle you see, or a flower, or Pawpaw's cologne. I was speaking sternly to you a few days ago about obeying, and I pulled your face close to mine, making sure you were paying attention. I noticed you bringing your nose closer and closer to my mouth. Then finally, you sniffed, and said "I smell coffee" in that deep matter-of-fact voice. It was seriously all I could do to finish our conversation without doubling over in laughter. I had just finished a cup of coffee, and you knew it. And you love the smell of coffee!

I know these fun little things you are doing and saying right now will be all but a distant memory very soon, so I want them written down so I'll remember them forever. You, my sweet Beckett, bring me more joy than you'll ever know.
